Construction of the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport commenced in 1978 and the airport was officially opened in the spring of 1979. The airport facilities consisted of a 3,000' runway and a 200' by 250' apron, a connecting taxiway, access road, and a float plane base at Robert's Lake.
In 1981 medium-intensity airfield lighting was installed.
The terminal building was constructed in 1983 and in 1984 an airport master plan was carried out.
In 1985 the runway was extended an additional 999 feet. And a non-directional beacon was installed on the extended runway centerline.
On September 9th, 2023 the Airport had its grand opening of a new expanded runway. The current runway is 100' wide x 4,900' long. The expanded runway project included upgraded LED runway & approach lighting
The Parry Sound Airport Business Park is currently home to both aviation and non aviation businesses. There is approximately 145 acres of land available for business development
