Mayor, Councillors & Wards

The Township of Seguin is governed by an elected Council consisting of a Mayor and 6 Councillors currently serving a four-year term (2022 - 2026).

Our Council makes decisions affecting the community and the services provided by the Township of Seguin.

Our Council and Township staff are always available to assist you in accessing our programs and services.

Please refer to the Council & Township Meetings Calendar for upcoming meeting dates.

Council agendas are posted on our website and on the Municipal Office Lobby Bulletin Board prior to the Township of Seguin Council Meeting. Council minutes are posted in draft format once prepared.

The Township of Seguin Council Code of Conduct was created to provide guidelines to the Head of Council and Members of Council to assist with the orderly decision making process and obligations of Council.

As of March 1, 2019, amendments to section 270 of the Municipal Act, 2001 required the Municipality to adopt and maintain a policy with respect to the relationship between Members of Council and the Officers and Staff of the Municipality. Council-Staff Relations Policy

Registry - Council Members' Statement of Declaration of Interest

The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, as amended Section 5.1 states at a meeting at which a member discloses an interest under Section 5 of the Act, or as soon as possible afterwards, the member shall file a written statement of the interest and its general nature. And Section 6 (1) of the Act states every declaration of interest and the general nature thereof made under Section 5 shall be recorded in the minutes of the meeting by the Clerk. This has been and is the practice of Seguin Township Council.

On March 1, 2019, the day named by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor, the Act is amended by adding the following section:

Registry
Requirement to establish registry
6.1 (1) Every municipality and local board shall establish and maintain a registry in which shall be kept,
(a) a copy of each statement filed under section 5.1; and
(b) a copy of each declaration recorded under section 6.

Access to registry
(2) The registry shall be available for public inspection in the manner and during the time that the municipality or local board, as the case may be, may determine.

As the Act requires as of March 1, 2019 a registry to be kept and made available to the public, Seguin Township is beginning a registry as of January, 2018.

A new Council was elected in Seguin on October 24, 2022. The current Mayor and Council for the Township of Seguin are as follows:

Mayor - Ann MacDiarmid

Mayor Ann MacDiarmid

About Mayor MacDiarmid

Ann was first elected as Mayor in 2014 and was acclaimed for her second term in 2018.  Ann grew up cottaging in Seguin, has been a ratepayer since 1982 and built her permanent home south of Rosseau in 2014.

Ann has always been an involved and dedicated community worker having help found Safe Quiet Lakes, was president of her lake association and has served on the Parry Sound Municipal Area Airport Commission for the past 4 years.  Working with her Council, Ann has brought over $39 million of new investment into the Region.  She understands the reality of both permanent and seasonal ratepayers and will work hard to overcome the obstacles associated with food insecurity, poverty and the lack of attainable housing.

Continuing on with her first four years as Seguin Mayor,  Ann is committed to having the West Parry Sound Aquatic and Recreation Centre become a reality, completing the Official Plan Review and updating the Seguin Strategic Plan.

Ann and her husband Miguel live year round in Seguin loving all of its seasons. Summers bring her children and grandchildren to their home to share in this spectacular Township.

Councillor Ward 5 - Ted Collins

About Councillor Collins

Ted Collins was elected as the Councillor of Ward 5 in Seguin Township in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and again in 2022.

Ted is a former professional firefighter and successful small business owner, operating Custom Boat Works, a boat distribution company that he started from the ground up 22 years ago.

CBW co-ordinates the design, manufacturing and delivery of engineered vessels for clients such as Canadian Coast Guard, United States Coast Guard, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of the Environment, Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue Services, Private Corporations and Recreational Customers throughout North America.

"I know firsthand the commitment and dedication you need to be successful and this is why I have what it takes to work hard for the people of this community."

Ted and his wife Ana have lived on Maple Lake in Maple Lake Estates Orrville since 1996. They have two children, Gillian and Jackson. They bought their home to start a family, away from the busyness of the big city. It wasn't too soon after moving here when they both sensed the strong community bond that surrounded them.

"I love where I live and what this community stands for which is why I come to you with an open mind, a sense of fairness, logical thinking and a willingness to work."

The staff and council have been successful in so many ways over the years in bringing us a top-notch municipality. I am honoured that the residents of Ward 5 have given me the opportunity to continue and contribute towards the best quality of life legacy we all enjoy today.

My sincere gratitude for your support over the next four years as Councillor.
