Effective July 1, 2020 all of the companies located at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport (PSAMA) can access high speed internet with 50 mbps download and 10 mbps upload. In partnership with Lakeland Energy’s retail company Lakeland Networks, the wireless signal throughout the airport has reached these communication speeds mandated federally for under $100 per month with no cap on the amount of data that each business can access per month.
Broadband for all of the 16 businesses, employing 85 people, located within the PSAMA is an essential piece of infrastructure that enables them to compete internationally with many of their customers and competitors located throughout the world. “Dependable communication is vital to our business growth and success”, stated Ralph Uhde, owner of Milford Bay SmokeHaus Inc.
“Access to high speed communications is key for today’s business competitiveness as experienced at the airport. Lakeland Energy is proud to assist existing and future business expansion,” explained Chris Litschko, CEO.
Phase 8 of the PSAMA Business Park is ready for occupancy with 3 lots facing Highway 400 and 3 closer to the runway. These lots are in various states of readiness to accommodate a range of uses. Free wifi is available at the Business Centre and Wings Café patio, now open 9-2 for takeout or outdoor seating.
PSAMA is perfectly located halfway between Sudbury and the Greater Toronto Area enabling easy highway and air access to the many businesses located throughout the Parry Sound area. Demand for non-urban locations has never been greater as COVID-19 mandates physical distancing. The increased broadband speed reduces virtually all barriers for rurally located businesses.
