During Fire Season (April 1st - October 31st) permits are required for daytime burning. Permits are generally only issued to contractors who must have either Heavy Machinery and/or Industrial Water Pumps on scene. Exceptions may be considered under extremely wet conditions. Permits are not required during LOW and MODERATE Fire Hazards for nighttime burning (two hours prior to sunset until two hours after sunrise) as long as the pile to be burned is not more than 2 meters by 2 meters. It is the property owner's responsibility to control their open burns.
Daytime burning is allowed from November 1st - March 31st. Pile size restrictions are still in force.
ALL fires must be completely extinguished if there is no one in attendance of the fire.
The current Fire Hazard is posted on the Muncipal Web Site as well as at the following locations:
- Hwy 518 and Tally Ho Swords Road - Hwy 141 in the Village of Rosseau - Hunter Drive and Oastler Park Drive - Municipal Office Garbage Transfer Bins - Christie Landfill Station - Foley Fire Hall - Airport Transfer Station - Hwy 69 @ Rays Diner
The Municpal telephone answering system will also provide you with the current Fire Hazard when the Municipal Office is closed.
It is a property owners responsibility to check the Fire Hazard on a daily basis before lighting a fire.

- the pile is less than 2 metres in diameter and less than 2 metres high;
- the fire is ignited 2 hours before sunset, or later, and is extinguished 2 hours after sunrise, or earlier;
- the fire is at least 2 metres away from any flammable materials; and
- the person has adequate tools or water to contain the fire.
