ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY
TOWNSHIP OF SEGUIN - The Mayors and Councils of the Municipalities of Seguin, Parry Sound, and McDougall today announced an Economic Development Strategy (EDS) that outlines a collaborative framework to stimulate and enhance economic development on a partnership basis between the three municipalities.
The EDS recognizes that since economic development in one municipality is beneficial for all three municipalities, it simply makes good sense to promote all three municipalities as a single development community.
Within the EDS, goals and strategies have been established concerning governance, land use, marketing, business support, the workforce, and housing. Parry Sound is recognized as the area's regional trade and service centre. Additionally, lands in eight specific zones have been targeted for development and specific development uses have been identified for each of these zones. The eight identified zones are: Parry Sound Industrial Park; Nobel; Joseph Street Corridor; North Tudhope Business Park; Downtown Parry Sound; Bowes Street/McDougall Road/N.W. Seguin; Oastler Park Drive Corridor; and the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport.
Further, commercial and housing development is encouraged in the Seguin communities of Rosseau, Humphrey, Orrville and Foley Centre; and in the McDougall communities of Nobel and Waubamik in addition to Parry Sound.
A fundamental principle of the EDS is that all development must protect and preserve the area's natural, visual, and social environments.
The EDS is the result of a year long team process led by the Chief Administrative Officers of Seguin, Parry Sound, and McDougall. Other team members included the Community Business Development Centre, the Parry Sound Area Planning Board, and Planning staff from the three municipalities.
The complete EDS report is available on the websites of each of the partnering municipalities.
